Research

• F. Oort is the internationally leading expert on moduli of abelian varieties over finite fields which play an important role in cryptography and coding theory
• The remarkable Andre-Oort conjecture, established independently by Oort and Andre has been one of the central research topics in arithmetic algebraic geometry in the last 15 years with enormous impact
• F.O. has founded a big and influential school in algebraic and arithmetic algebraic geometry with students all over the world

Frans Oort has been chairman of the mathematics department of the University of Amsterdam, chairman of the mathematics department of the University of Utrecht, twice one of the leaders of a big scientific project:

Frans Oort has been several times member, also president, of aprize winning committee: "Philips Prijs", Stieltjes Prijs". He has organized several conferences.
