Peter Nagy - Biography#

Peter NAGY, DSc. is the Scientific Director and Head of the Molecular Immunology and Toxicology Department at the National Institute of Oncology, Budapest, and at the University of Debrecen holds the positions of Acting Director of the Chemistry Coordination Institute and Chairman of the Scientific and Social Advisory Board of the Count István Tisza Foundation.

He is full professor at the University of Debrecen and at the University of Veterinary Medicine and visiting professor at Semmelweis University.

Having graduated as a chemist at the University of Debrecen, he obtained his PhD jointly from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) and his alma mater. Held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Oklahoma (USA) and at the University of Otago (NZ), and was a visiting research fellow at the University of Washington (Seattle) and at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH (Zurich).

He is an expert in the field of redox biology related to oncogenesis, tumour progression as well as immune response and development of resistance to therapies, cancer epidemiology.

Membership in international organisations: member of the European Academy of Cancer Sciences, delegate to the Scientific Council of the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, Accreditation and Designation Board member of the Organization of European Cancer Institutes, and member of the EURACAN Steering Committee.

As Work Package leader for projects funded by the European Commission, he contributed to the advancement of cancer research. Through the UNCAN project, he collaborated with international organisations to reduce inequalities in cancer care.

He is the PI of the National Tumorbiology Laboratory and Redox Tumorbiology Thematic Excellence Programmes, and PI or researcher in several thematic research projects.

He is a contributor to 8 scientific journals as Editor and Member of the Editorial Board. He has published 115 scientific publications receiving over 7000 citations.
