- 1975 until 1984 Studied History and Political Science as well as (without final examinations) Classical Philology (Latin) at the University of Vienna
- 1984 Graduated as Doctor of Philosophy through the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Vienna; on the same day sat entrance examination as part of the 57. Training Course at the Institut für Österreichische Geschichtsforschung
- 1984-1994 Assistant (Universitätsassistent) at the History Department at the University of Vienna
