Mårten Wilkström is certainly one of the most well known biochemists in the field of bioenergeties. He has shown that cytochrome oxidase is a proton pump and in detail elucidated how protons move in the enzyme.

He is highly cited in the scientific literature. In addition, several good scientists have been educated in his research group.
