Robert Tampé - Biography#

Robert Tampé is one of the most preeminent European scientists in membrane transport and renowned for his groundbreaking research in membrane biology and cellular quality control. He heads the Institute of Biochemistry at Goethe University Frankfurt as well as the Collaborative Research Center 1507. Tampé's work has significantly advanced our understanding of membrane transport complexes, receptor organization, antigen processing, and viral immune evasion (published as corresponding author in NATURE, SCIENCE, CELL, NSMB, EMBO J, PNAS, ANGEW CHEM, etc.). In addition, he has made remarkable discoveries in ribosome recycling mechanisms. Throughout his career, Tampé has been honored with prestigious awards, including two ERC Advanced Grants from the European Research Council, the Reinhart Koselleck Project Award from the German Research Foundation (DFG), and the Schaefer Research Award from Columbia University, New York. His contributions to science are further underscored by his membership in the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) and his numerous regular invitations to deliver honorary and keynote lectures throughout the globe. He has an outstanding track record in promoting early career scientists, a number of whom holding prestigious faculty positions. The Tampé lab constantly shares expertise and reagents with the scientific community. In short, Robert Tampé is highly regarded as a leader in the scientific community with unique connections to with top-notch European groups.
