Jacob Sosna - Biography#
Educational and Professional Qualifications:
Prof. Sosna earned his MD from the Sackler Faculty of Medicine of Tel Aviv University with Distinction in 1989. He completed his residency in Radiology at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem, Israel in 2001. He travelled to Boston to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, for a Research and Clinical Fellowships in Abdominal Imaging and Advanced Cross-Sectional Imaging. Prof. Sosna returned to Hadassah as a Senior Radiologist, Head of CT, and Director of the 3D Imaging Laboratory in 2003. He has served as Radiology Research Coordinator since 2004, and he established and heads the Experimental CT and acts as a co-director of the Applied Radiology Laboratory. Prof. Sosna has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals and is an active speaker in international conferences on Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging. He was selected by the Board of Directors of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) as the Eyler editorial fellow for 2006, and was an Associate Editor for Radiology. In 2017 Prof. Sosna was awarded an honorary fellowship of the American College of Radiology and in 2018 an honorary membership of the RSNA. He also received honorary memberships from the French and Croatian societies of Radiology. Prof. Sosna’s research focuses on cutting edge CT technology and AI in collaboration with other experts within different silos combing academia, medicine and industry in the US and Europe.
Position:
Prof. Sosna is the Chairman of Radiology at the Hadassah Hebrew University Medical Center since 2011, the Director of the Imaging and Nuclear Medicine Division since 2016. He served as president of the Israeli Radiological Association between 2011 - 2020 and as Vice Dean of the Hebrew University – Hadassah Faculty of Medicine until 2023.
Experience:
Prof. Sosna is a world renown radiologist in the development of advanced CT scanners and post processing of model based and AI tools in analysis of complicated oncological cases. Dating to his very early career was involved with analysis and implementation of virtual colonoscopy and was a pioneer in this field. Later he was one of the leaders in development of dual energy CT scanners , first of their kind in the world. Prof. Sosna was a member of a Harvard based group involved with quality assurance projects in Radiology and published several seminal manuscripts in this field. He is an active member of the American College of Radiology international economics committee and involved in on-going projects related to resource utilization in Radiology also within the framework of the European Union. Prof. Sosna is a member of the prestigious International Society for the Strategic Studies in Radiology (IS3R) that forms a network of academic leaders scientists and industry. Prof. Sosna recently co-founded an AI company (High-Rad) aimed at improving oncological follow-up of patients and tailoring personalized medicine. The experience gained in his different endeavours are aimed to actively shape the future of medicine and medical imaging by leveraging the knowledge and combining research, clinical knowledge and digital infra-structure to provide opportunities for cross talk among silos and sectors.
