Constantine E. Sekeris - Biography#
Constantine E. Sekeris, MD, PD, Emeritus Research Professor
Constantine E. Sekeris obtained his Diploma in Medicine from the University of Athens (1956). He obtained his Doctorate title from the Medical Faculty of the University of Munich (1962); his professorship from the University of Marburg (1969); and was Head of the Department of Molecular Cell Biology at the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg from 1974-1977. He headed the Institute of Biological Research and Biotechnology from 1977-2000. From 1979-1993 he held the chair of Biochemistry of the Science Faculty of University of Athens and from 1993-2000 of the Faculty of Medicine of the same University.
In 1980 he was named Honorary Professor of Cell Biology of the Science Faculty of the University of Heidelberg and in 2000 Professor emeritus of the University of Athens, Faculty of Medicine and emeritus Res. Director of the NHRF. He is an EMBO member since 1980, foreign member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and member of the Academia Europaea. His research interests are focused on the biochemical, molecular and cellular mechanisms of steroid hormone action.
