Kurt Seelmann - Biography#
Born in 1947 in Berchtesgaden, K.S. studied law in Munich (1966 - 1970) and Philosophy, in Munich (1971 - 1974). In 1973 K.S. earned his doctoral degree in law (Dr. jur.) from the University of Munich. In 1978 he submitted his habilitation at the Faculty of Law and Economics, University of Saarland in Saarbrücken. From 1978 - 1983 he was extraordinary Professor at the University of Saarbrücken. From 1983 - 1995 Professor of criminal law and philosophy of law at the University of Hamburg, where he was Dean of the Faculty in 1991/1992. Since 1995 he is the Chairholder of criminal law and philosophy of law at the Faculty of Law, University of Basel, where he was Dean in 1998/1999. K.S. is Member of Ethics Committees at the University, Canton Basel and at national level, and, as already indicated, co-editor of a number of leading journals in the field of his activities. K.S. taught at various universities in Italy, the USA, England, Japan and South Korea. He also carried out a number of research projects financed by the Swiss National Research Foundation.
