Teaching and educational activity:
An important part of Professor Rudolf’s efforts as an educator was centered on the Groningen Graduate School of Science and Engineering, where she has been director between 2014-2018. In this capacity, she oversaw the entire M.Sc. and Ph.D. curriculum. At the end of her mandate, 7 of the programs were elected as the first in the country by the students, and the number of applications had increased by 28%. She was involved in the management of her home institution, the Zernike Institute for nine years (five years as chair of the Board), during which the institute moved up in the THE ranking of materials science research institutes to the 4th place worldwide, 1st in Europe. She supervised 19 Bachelor’s (6 women), 34 Master’s (14 women) and 27 PhD (10 women) theses. These statistics themselves are impressive in such a male-dominated scientific area, but the number of female scientists whose life has been touched by interaction with Professor Rudolf is much larger.
