Michael Quante - Biography#
Michael Quante (1962) has made his PhD in Philosophy (on Hegel's Concept of Action) at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster in 1992 where he has written his Habilitation in 2001 (on Personal Identity as Principle of Biomedical Ethics), too. After professorships in Duisburg-Essen (2003-2005) and Cologne (2005-2009) he is full professor of practical philosophy in the department of philosophy at the Westfälische Wilhelms-University since 2009. He is Speaker of the Centrum für Bioethik, member of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Bioethics and Principle Investigator in the Cluster of Excellence "Religion and Politics" (both at the WWU in Münster). After having been associated editor of the international journal "Ethical Theory and Moral Practice" from 2004 till 2011 he is Co-Editor of the Hegel Studien since 2012.
Among his areas of specialization are German idealism (especially the works of Hegel and Marx), theory of action, personal identity, ethics and biomedical ethics. He has published and edited 30 books and more than 150 papers in several languages.
