Marek Potemski - Biography#

Dr. Marek Potemski graduated from University of Warsaw (1980); received his PhD from Polish Academy of Sciences (1986); carried out his research initially in Warsaw (1980-1991) at the Institute of Physics before joining the permanent staff of the French CNRS, as a researcher at the Grenoble High Magnetic Field Laboratory (now Laboratoire National des Champs Magnétiques Intenses, LNCMI). He received his “habilitation” qualification in 1997 from the University of Grenoble and now holds a position of the “research director, 1st class” at the CNRS and heads a largest research group of the LNCMI.

Electronic properties of two-dimensional and nano-structured systems in magnetic fields and/or studied with magnetic field techniques are the most representative domain of his research activity. Working in this area for more than 25 years, Dr. Potemski created a worldwide recognized research group and has established an excellent international network of collaborators (via his numerous sabbatical visits, given talks and hosting in Grenoble of many visiting scientists) from Europe and Canada. Many of his PhD students and postdoctoral fellows hold now academic positions in France, Spain, and particularly in Poland, but remain his close collaborators.

In a most competitive company Potemski has won the ERC Advanced grant and became a group leaders in the WP-fundamentals of the EC Graphene flagship).

During the last decade, he published 180 papers, presented ~40 invited talks at international meetings, including 17th International Conference on Electronic properties of two-dimensional systems (Genova, 2007), APS March Meeting, (Pittsburgh, 2009), and 31st International Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors (Zürich, 2012) (plenary talk ).
