Armando Pombeiro - Biography#
Armando Pombeiro is Full Prof. Jubilado at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa), Distant Director at RUDN Univ. (Moscow), Full Member of Academy of Sciences of Lisbon (formerly in charge of relevant positions, eg, Secretary-General and Vice-President of Class of Sciences), Fellow of European Academy of Sciences (EurASc), founding President of College of Chem. of ULisboa, former Coordinator of Centro de Química Estrutural, Coordinator of Coordination Chem. and Catalysis Group, founding Director of multi-university PhD Program Catalysis and Sustainability. He chaired major internat. conferences.
Former member of i) governmental S&T and innovation advisory higher councils, ii) external evaluation panels of Portuguese and foreign (Camerino, Baku) universities, iii) physical and engineering S&T panel and advisory panel of NATO Science Program.
His research addresses activation of small molecules with industrial, environmental or biolog. significance (eg, alkane functionalization, oxidation catalysis, catalysis in unconventional conditions), crystal engineering of coordination compounds, polynuclear and supramolecular structures, non-covalent interactions in synthesis, compounds with bioactivity, molecular electrochemistry and theoretical studies.
He edited/authored 10 books, authored ca. 950 research publications, ca. 40 patents. His work received ca. 28,000 citations (11,600 citing articles; over 2,000 citations/year in last 4 years), h-index = 76 (Web of Science, June 2022). He presented 200 invited lectures at internat. conferences or foreign institutions, and supervised/mentored 28 PhD and 19 MSc theses, 60 doctorates (mostly foreign post-docs) and 75 grads or undergrads (mostly foreign grads).
Among his honors, he was awarded Honorary Professorship by St. Petersburg State Univ. (Institute of Chemistry), Invited Chair Professorship by National Taiwan Univ. of S&T, inaugural SCF French-Portuguese Prize by French Chem. Society, Madinabeitia-Lourenço Prize by Spanish Royal Chem. Society, Prizes of Portuguese Chem. and Electrochem. Societies, Scientific Prizes of ULisboa and Technical ULisboa, and Vanadis Prize. Special issues of Coord. Chem. Rev. and JOMC were published in his honor.
