Carita Paradis - Biography#
Carita Paradis is Professor at the Centre for languages and literature of Lund University, where she received her PhD in 1997.
She has taught courses in English Linguistics at all levels (1st, 2nd as well as 3rd circle), supervised 12 MA theses, 14 PhD students, 1 Fil. Lic and 8 Postdocs. She has been an external examiner on 10 dissertations and on the examination board for 17 dissertations in Sweden and abroad. She has given PhD courses on semantics, pragmatics, discourse and methods , mostly at Lund University, but, for instance, also at Gothenburgh University, Linnaeus University and Trondheim (summer school for PhD and Postdocs from Europe).
She has written a textbook on English grammar, 5 books, she has edited 10 journal volumes and has published close to 100 refereed journals articles and chapters in refereed books.
She is or was participating an in a large number of national and international research groups and projects on topics funded by national and European bodies: She coordinates a research group with the name Language, Cognition and Discourse@Lund (LCD@L) focusing on how language means when it is used in discourse, how it is acquired and processed, how it develops and varies across social contexts and times.
Professor Paradis served or serves on the following editoral boards: Cognitive Semantics (2024 -), Languages (2015 –) , Human Cognitive processing book series, John Benjamins (2010–), English Language and Linguistics, 2007–2012, 2021- and the Nordic Journal of English Studies, 2003– . She is the Editor of Cognitive Linguistics in Practice (2010– ).
