José Fernando Ferreira Mendes - Biography#
Full Professor of Physics
Research interests: theoretical analysis of complex networks, their structure and function, novel percolation phenomena, and processes taking place on networks, including applications to biological and information networks. He is author of one book on complex networks published by the Oxford University Press, reviews in complex networks published on Advances in Physics and in Reviews of Modern Physics and more than 90 papers in prestigious scientific journals and has received more than 5500 citations and organized several international conferences. In 2004 he won the Gulbenkian Prize in science. He is currently a researcher-coordinator in the department of physics in Aveiro University.
Since 2002, has served as scientific team leader of a group of several researchers and collaborated with scientists worldwide.
He was Head of Physics Department from December 2004 to February 2010, and from October 2009 to February 2010 Director of the Aveiro Research Unit FSCOSD (I3N) and also President of the Associated Laboratory I3N (Institute of Nanostructures, Nanomodelling and Nanofabrication). Since February 2010 he is the Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies at the University of Aveiro.
