Vladimir Fal'ko - Biography#
Vladimir Fal'ko is condensed matter theorist working on various aspects of structure, optics and electronic transport of two-dimensional materials, publishing >300 papers with h-index of 58 and >25,000 citations. He contributed towards shaping the European research community in graphene and other two-dimensional materials by initiating, in 2006, and, then, running Graphene Week Conference series and by setting, in 2008, and then chairing Eurocores Programme EuroGraphene of the European Scince Foundation. Since 2009, Fal'ko was one of the initiators and, then, leaders of the EU Graphene Flagship project (where he was Division Head and leader of WP 'Enablish Science').
Since 2014, he was the founding Editor-in-Chief of 2D Materials Journal of the Institute of Physics Publishing House.
Fal’ko managed and lead major research grants (ERC Synergy Grant, EC and ERANET consortia, as well as EPSRC collaborative projects) and major capital investments ranging from EPSRC Strategic Packages to the interdisciplinary National Graphene Institute at Manchester.
He also contributed towards EU-wide PhD and postdoctoral training, by running, during 2001-2015, a series of 7 Windsor Summer Schools on quantum Condensed Matter Physics and, since 2014, being Co-Director of joint EPSRC-Manchester-Lancaster Centre for Doctoral Training Graphene-NOWNANO.
