Dobromir Dobrev - Biography#
Dr. Dobrev is Full Professor and Director of Institute of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, University Duisburg-Essen, Essen, Germany. He also serves as Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Montreal Heart Institute, University of Montreal, Canada and Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, USA. His main research interest is the molecular basis of disease-related cardiac remodeling and arrhythmias and identification and validation of novel antiarrhythmic targets. Dr. Dobrev is recognized nationally and internationally as an expert in cardiovascular research. He has authored over 400 peer-reviewed articles in medical journals including Circulation, Circulation Research, Journal of Clinical Investigation, The Lancet, Nature Reviews Cardiology, Journal of American College of Cardiology, European Heart Journal, and Nature Reviews Drug Discovery (total Impact Factor >4464, average Impact Factor per article 14.5) and has received over 200 invitations to speak at congresses/seminars worldwide. He serves on Editorial Boards of several cardiovascular journals and is Editor-in Chief of International Journal of Cardiology: Heart and Vasculature and Deputy-Editor of International Journal of Cardiology. He has received numerous awards including a Research Award of the German Heart Foundation (2001), the Albert-Fraenkel-Award of the German Society of Cardiology (2005) and the Outstanding Achievement Award of the European Cardiac Arrhythmia Society (2012). From 2007-2013 he served as Grantee Coordinator, Transatlantic Networks of Excellence in Cardiovascular Research Program of Fondation Leducq, Network Grant 07CVD03 (“The European-North American Atrial Fibrillation Research Alliance”). He was chair of the Working Group on Cardiac Cellular Electrophysiology of the European Society of Cardiology and is chair-elect of the ESC WG on Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy. He was Board Member of the European Heart Rhythm Association (2017-2020). Dr. Dobrev is elected fellow of numerous international societies. He received a Honorary Doctorate (Dr. h.c.) by University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila”, Bucharest, Romania.
