Jolanda De Vries - Biography#
Jolanda de Vries was PhD student at the Department of Dermatology of University Medical Centre Utrecht from 1991-1997. In 1997, she joined the Department of Tumor Immunology, Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre in Nijmegen. To date, She is Professor and Head of the Department of Tumor Immunology at the Radboud Institute for Molecular Life Sciences.
De Vries is an internationally renowned expert in cellular immunology, with a particular focus on dendritic cells, cancer immunotherapy, and imaging immune responses. Throughout her work she always aims to bring immunological concepts into clinical practice. She is recognized in the fields of cancer (underscored by her appointment to the research council of the Dutch Cancer Foundation) as well as in the field of immunology (presidency of NVVI). De Vries is a board member and scientific advisor in several patient organizations (e.g., Inspire2Live, Patientenstem.nu), an exceptional achievement for a basic science-oriented researcher.
De Vries leads large interdisciplinary research teams, both national and international. She is PI in three EU Horizon 2020 programs and Coordinator of a large immunology consortium, DC4Balance, in which she brought together 10 academic partners, 12 private partners, and five health foundations. Reflecting her vision that collaboration can impact immune health, she brought together three immunology-based consortia resulting in ImmuneHealthXL, a large strategic consortium in which public, private partners, health funding organizations, and patient organizations collaborate to better understand the pathogenesis of Immune-Mediated Diseases, infections, and cancer.
