- Doctor of Philosophy from the Complutense University of Madrid
- He has been professor of psychology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Valencia, and Complutense University of Madrid; also at the Distance University of Madrid UDIMA
- First Dean of the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Valencia (1983 - 1988)
- Director of more than ten research projects, and fifty doctoral theses. It has 6 approved research periods
- He was founder (1980) and currently directs the "Revista de Historia de la Psicología", and was also founder and first president of the Spanish Society for the History of Psychology
- President of the Spanish Federation of Psychology Associations (1994 - 2004)
- Member of the steering committees of the "International Union of Psychological Science" (IUPsyS) (2004 - 2012), and of the "International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP) ” (1994 - 2012), and “fellow” of the same (2006)
- Founder and first president of the IAAP History of Applied Psychology Division (2010-14)

- He is an Academic "associé" of the Académie Royale de Belgique, and foreign correspondent of the Academia das Ciências de Lisboa (2005) and Academic of Number, of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences of Spain (2000), and of the Academy of Psychology of Spain (2015), of which he is its President
