Mario Boccaletti#

Born in Florence (Italy) on March 2nd, 1937. He became doctor in Earth Sciences on July 1962 at the Faculty of Science (University of Florence).

• 1965. Researcher of the CNR (National Council of Researches) at the National Center of Researches on Geology of the Appenines in Florence.
• 1970. PhD in Geology
• 1970-1979. Professor of Geology and Lithology at the Faculty of Engeneering at the University of Florence
• From 1980 Full Professor of Structural Geology at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Florence
• 1980. Head of the Geology and Paleontology Institute of the University of Florence
• 1982 –1992 Head of the Centro di Geologia dell’Appennino e delle Catene Mediterranee of C.N.R. in Florence
• 1980,1981 and 1984.Professor of Geology at the National University of Somaly, within the framework of the Cooperation for the development of the Italian Foreign Office.
• 1987, 1988, 1990 Professor of Structural Geology at the Department of Geology of Addis Abeba ( Ethiopia ),within the framework of the Cooperation for the development of the Italian Foreign Office.
• Member up to 1997 of the Executive Council of the Regional Committee of the Mediterranean Neogene Stratigraphy (RCMNS),and chairman of the research group on Paleontology and Geodynamics of RCMNS
• Scientific Responsible of the National research group of the Geology of the Northern Apennines for the Tectonic Map of Italy in the framework of the CNR National Geodynamics Project.
• Scientific Coordinator for many years of the research groups of several Italian Universities (Milano,Parma,Firenze,Camerino,Roma,Bari,Cosenza,Napoli and Catania) and of Agip for the study of Western Mediterranean Paleogeography.
• 1989-1996 Founder and Editor in Chief of the international journal Annales Tectonicae and member of the Advisory Board of Tectonics.
• He worked in several perimediterranean chains ( Apennines, Betic Chain, Carpathians, Balkans,Hellenides,Pontides) and in Africa ( Rif, Tunisian Tell, Horn of Africa)
• In collaboration with the Ministère de l’Energie et des Mines of Rabat , the Geological Society of Morocco and under the auspices of the “Union Internationale des Sciences Gèologiques”,in the framework of the activities of the R.C.M.N.S.,he organized an Interim Colloquium on the Neogene Basin Evolution and Tectonics in the Mediterranean Area,held in Rabat April 7-8 1994
• 1985-1987 Member of the Committee of Earth Sciences of the Research Italian Ministry for the evaluation and funding of national projects; he has been confirmed as vice-president in the 1988-1990.
• From 1989 he has been nominated Member of the “Academiae Europaeae”
• Author of 180 publications.
