Caroline Bassett - Biography#
Early career as a technology and computing journalist, writer and editor. Caroline Bassett later pursued her PhD and became a lecturer (later Reader and Professor) at Sussex University, UK. In 2019 she became the first Professor of Digital Humanities at the University of Cambridge. She has also been a Visiting Fellow at Helsinki University and McGill University. She is now Director of Cambridge Digital Humanities.
Bassett's research is centred on investigating, and critically analysing the relationship between computational technologies, cultures and societies, and cultural forms and practices.
Her recent publications include work on digital transformation, mobile and pervasive media, gender and technology, medium theory, digital humanities, science fiction, imagination and innovation, sound and silence. She recently published Furious, a co-authored monograph exploring contemporary issues of gender and technology.
