Timothy Ayers - Biography#


Prof. Tim Ayers received his doctoral from the famous Courtald Institute of the University of London and has since then distinguished himself in the study of ancient and medieval glass, rising to presidency of the Corpus Vitrearum - a major international project of the International Union of Academies (UAI). His entire teaching career to date has been at the University of York, rising to the rank of full professor in 2014. He is well-known nationally and internationally for his research on the history of stained glass windows and their restoration. He has until recently been director the distinguished Centre for Medieval Studies at York University - the only University in the UK which specialises almost entirely on medieval archaeology. He is a leading figure in the study of British medieval art and architecture. He has a track record of international collaboration on the board of the international Corpus Vitrearum, including coordination with project members and international sponsors, and in project fund-raising.
