Gianfranco Agosti - Biography#

Gianfranco Agosti studied and completed his PhD in Greek and Latin Philology (1995) at the University of Florence. He got a grant from the Fondation Hardt in 1993 and a Fellowship at the Center for Hellenic Studies (Washington DC) in 1995-1996; he was eventually Post-Doc Researcher in Papyrology at the University of Messina (2001-2005), Chercheur Associé Étranger at the CNRS–UMR 7044, Université de Strasbourg (2006), Directeur d’étude invité, Université de Paris IV-Sorbonne, EPHE (2008), Professeur invité, Paris IV-Sorbonne (2012), and Université Laval (Canada, 2014); Member of the Institute of Advanced Study (Princeton, 2016).

Regular professor of Greek and Latin in High Schools in Florence (1998-2001 and 2005-2008), he lectured Classical Philology at the University of Siena-Arezzo (2004-2010). Appointed as permanent Assistant Professor of Classical Philology at the University of Udine (2008), he has been from 2011 to 2022 Lecturer and then Associate Professor at Sapienza University of Rome. He is currently Full Professor of Classical and Late Antique Philology at the University of Pisa (Dipartimento di FIlologia, Letteratura e Linguistica).

He has extensively (2 monographs, 3 edited volumes, 2 forthcoming monographs; more than 150 articles, book chapters and reviews) published on Greek literature, papyrology, epigraphy of Late Antiquity and given more than 170 papers in Italy, Europe and USA.
