Wolfgang Zach - Curriculum Vitae#

Mag. and Dr. phil., Ph.D. (Hon.), Emeritus Professor of English Literature and Language at the University of Innsbruck, Director of CISLE-Centre for the International Study of Literatures in English. Honorary President of the Association of University Professors at the Universities of Innsbruck. Past President and Board Member of the Association of University Professors in Austria.

Prior to his appointment as Full Professor of English Literature and Language to the University of Innsbruck (1994) Prof. Zach was Associate Professor and Head of the Section ‘New Literatures in English’ at Graz University.

Visiting Professor/Research Fellow at the University of Münster, University of Halle-Wittenberg, Mansfield College Oxford, University of Trieste, University of Verona, University of Malta, National University of Singapore, University of Nigeria, Doshisha University Kyoto, Aichi Shukutoku University Nagoya, Concordia University Montreal, Griffith University Brisbane et al. Declined offer of a Chair (Professor C4) at the University of Halle-Wittenberg, Honorary Adjunct Professor, University of Fiji.

Past Vice-President of the International Association for the Study of Irish Literature and the European Association for Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies. Numerous lectures at universities and conferences in ca. 30 countries. Chairman of big international conferences.

Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Research, First Class, Grand and Golden Order of Merit for Services Rendered to the Republic of Austria , Distinguished Service Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal State of Tyrol, Order of Merit of the City of Graz, and other national and international awards and fellowships for his scholarly work.

Research (partly funded by the Austrian Science Fund) on 18th century English and Irish literatures, Postcolonial Literatures and Cultures (especially on Indigenous Australian literature, slavery and racism, national stereotypes, colonialism, cultural conflict und transculturality) as well as on literary theory and criticism. Author of numerous publications in these fields.

(Co-)Editor of five scholarly periodicals and three series of monographs.

Long-time commitment to activities in university politics and management in various positions.

Director of CISLE – Centre for the International Study of Literatures in English, an international network of scholars and writers from all the world working in the wide field of Anglophone literatures, founded in 1987, with the aim „to promote intercultural understanding, interdisciplinary research and international literary exchange“, moved from the University of Graz to the University of Innsbruck 1994. Organization of numerous international conferences and publication of proceedings in book series SECL (up to now 26 volumes)
