Hiromi Yamashita - Biography#


Hiromi Yamashita has been professor in the Division of Materials and Manufacturing Science, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University since 2004.

He graduated Bachelor course of Kyoto University in 1982, Master course of Kyoto University in 1984 and Doctor course of Kyoto University in 1987 and received PhD degree from Kyoto University (under Prof. Satohiro Yoshida) in 1987 with thesis titled "Catalysis of Amorphous Metal Alloy".

He was an assistant professor of Tohoku University (with Profs. Akira Tomita, Takasi Kyotani) during 1987-1992, an assistant professor and associate professor of Osaka Prefecture University (with Prof. Masakazu Anpo) during 1992-2003, and has been a full professor of Osaka University since 2004.

He was an invited professor of University Pierre and Marie Curie (UPMC) (with Prof. Michel Che) in 2009, Shanghai University of Electronic Power in 2014, and Shanghai Normal University (with Prof. Hexing Li) in 2016. He has been a guest professor of Elements Strategy Initiative for Catalysts and Batteries in Kyoto University (with Prof. Tsunehiro Tanaka) since 2014, a guest professor of Research Center of Solar Energy Chemistry of Osaka University since 2005, and a guest professor of Institute for Nano Science Design of Osaka University since 2008. He was a director of Course of Materials Science and Engineering of Osaka University in 2005, 2008, 2012, and 2016.

He was also visiting research fellow of the Pennsylvania State University (Prof. Ljubisa R. Radovic) in 1992, the University of Texas at Austin (with Prof. Mary Ann Fox) in 1993, California Institute of Technology (with Prof. Mark Davis) during 1998-1999.

He is now an editor of Applied Catalysis B: Environmental (IF=14.23), an associate editor of Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology C: Photochemistry Reviews (IF=15.3), a president of Asia-Pacific Association of Catalysis Societies (APACS) (from Aug. 2019) and a president of Catalysis Society of Japan (from May 2019) . He was an associate editor of Chemistry Letters and an associate editor of Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan.

He presented lectureships in Japanese Universities (Tohoku, Hiroshima,, Tsukuba, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Kyoto, Kyushu , Kumamoto, Nagasaki, Ehime, Tottori) as well as abroad (Alicante University, Spain; Inha University, South Korea; University Pierre and Marie Curie (UPMC), France; University College London, UK; Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China; National University of Taiwan, Taiwan).

He has received awards from several societies such as Catalysis Society of Japan, Japanese Photochemistry Association, the Japan Petroleum Institute, the Japan Institute of Metals and Materials, Japan Society of Coordination Chemistry. He has published more than 550 papers including reviews and book chapters. His research interests include the design of single-site photocatalysts and nanostructured catalysts.
