Michael Hochberg - Biography#
Prof. Michael Hochberg joined the CNRS in 1991 as a Researcher, and was promoted in 1995 to Research Director, in 2001 to a Tier 1 Directorship, and in 2011 to Distinguished Research Director. Over his career, he has published over 100 articles and book chapters, and given more than 75 invited talks, 10 of which have been plenary and keynote addresses. He has trained over 50 Masters and PhD students, supervised 10 postdoctoral researchers, and has received numerous funding awards to carry out his research, including grants from the Agence National de Recherche, the French National Cancer Institute, and the McDonnell Foundation.
In 1997, Prof. Hochberg was honored with the CNRS Silver Medal for excellence in research. In 1998, he took a sabbatical at the Department of Zoology, University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he was “Honorary Research Fellow in Zoology”, in 2009 was Visiting Miller Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and 2013-2014 Fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. Prof. Hochberg was a nominated member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis, Santa Barbara (2005-2007). He is currently Section Head of the Faculty of 1000 (2004-), External Professor at the Santa Fe Institute (2012-), Associate Editor at Science Advances (2016-), and served as Director the Darwinian Evolution of Cancer Consortium (2012-2015). Prof. Hochberg is Founding Editor of Ecology Letters and served as Editor-in-Chief from 1998-2008.
