Yuming Guo - Biography#


Professor Guo is the top researcher in Occupational and Environmental Medicine by The Australian, a recipient of the Tony McMichael Award of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology for his outstanding contribution to the field of global climate change and human health, and a Highly Cited researcher (ranked 43 in 115,291 environmental scientists in 2024, according to the Stanford/Elsevier list, highlighting the most cited scientists across the globe).

Professor Guo has >600 publications (including NEJM, Lancet, BMJ, Nature) with >150,000 citations (h-index 113, Google Scholar); 91% of the articles are published in top 15% journals ranked by their fields; he is the first (co-first), second, and senior author for half of the publications; and he is Co-Editor-in-Chief of the topical book on “Heat Exposure and Human Health in the Context of Climate Change” (>10,000 downloads since 09/2022, ranked #465 in the sale of KOBO in the field of public health).

Professor Guo receives regular invitations to chair symposia and present lectures at nationally and internationally leading conferences in climate and environmental epidemiology and public health. He has presented >100 invited conference talks, seminars and public lectures at universities, institutes, communities (e.g., schools and age care communities) and environmental protection industries worldwide.

Professor Guo is an Associate Editor for several top journals including: PLOS Medicine, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Environmental Health Perspectives, Environment International, and The Innovation.

Professor Guo is appointed as an adjunct professor by National University of Singapore, The University of Melbourne, The University of Queensland, The University of Oulu. He was awarded visiting fellowship of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine supported by the Leverhulme Trust.

Professor Guo is appointed as a chair or committee member for NSW Health, Australian Department of Health and Aged Care, Department of Climate Change, Energy, The Environment and Water, Victoria State Health Department, Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, and think tank for climate change and health in Australia. He is also a consultant for Asia Development Bank and World Health Organisation.
