Inga Mai Groote - Biography#

Inga Mai Groote is Full Professor of Musicology at the University of Zurich. Prior to that she held a chair of musicology at the University of Heidelberg (2015-2018) and was assistant professor at the Institute of Musicology of LMU Munich (2005-2010) and at the University of Zurich (2010-2014), and associate professor at the University of Fribourg (2014-2015). She studied Musicology, Medieval/Modern History and Romance Studies/Italian Philology in Bonn where she obtained her doctorate (Dr. phil., Bonn 2005) with a thesis on music in Italian academies in the 16th and 17th centuries, supported by fellowships from the German Historical Institute in Rome and the Bonn Graduate School “Die italienische Renaissance und ihre europäische Rezeption”. She has conducted research on the impact of Russian music in late-19th century France (Habilitation 2013) and on 16th-century music theory (2008-2011, Collaborative Research Centre, "Pluralisierung und Autorität in der Frühen Neuzeit", SFB 573, Munich) and its printing history (member of the DFG-ANR research group EUROLAB, 2009-13). Currently, she is a member of the Collaborative Research Centre "Material Text Cultures" (SFB 933, Heidelberg, project "Material Formations of Music Theory Concepts: Praxeology of Disciplinary Writing towards the End of the Middle Ages") and of the project "Sound Memories: The Musical Past in Late Medieval and Early Modern Europe" (HERA-JRP, 2016-19).
