Biography
Professor, Born 1926, cand.jur. 1947, dr.jur. 1958 from the University of Copenhagen. Professor of law at the University of Copenhagen 1958-96. From 1996 at the Business School of Copenhagen.
Graduate studies at Harvard Law School 1951-52. Honorary professor at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, 1970. Doctor of laws h.c. at the University of Lund, Sweden, 1982. Visiting professor at the Harvard Law School in 1979; at Berkeley, California in 1983 and 1991 and at the University in Kiel, Germany in 1986.
Legal advisor to the Danish Atomic Commission 1956-1976. Legal advisor to the Association of Danish Insurence Companies from 1958. Chairman and member of several governmental law reform committees. Have frequently acted as arbitrator or expert in Danish/International cases.
Chairman of the Danish Institute of Arbitration, 1980-2006. Chairman of the Danish Legal Aid Society 1961-1973. Member of the board of directors of Den Danske Bank and of various Danish business corporations until 2001. Member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters 1975. Member of Academia European 1980.
Received the Nordic Jurists Prize, 1987 and the Örsted medal in 1995.
Author of numerous books and articles (mainly in Danish) especially in the field of the law of obligations, company law and civil procedure.
