Sophie Godin-Beekmann - Biography#
Dr. Sophie Godin-Beekmann is a research director at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). A physicist by training, she specialized in the development of ground-based and airborne lidar instruments for the measurement of atmospheric parameters. Her research activity concerns the impact of human activities on the stratospheric ozone layer and the interactions between ozone depletion and climate change. She has also been involved in interdisciplinary research projects, particularly concerning the impact of ultraviolet radiation on human health, and adaptation to environmental changes. She directed the Observatory of Versailles Saint-Quentin en Yvelines (2012 - 2017) and was nominated deputy director of the National Institute of Sciences of the Universe (INSU) of CNRS, in charge of relations with universities in November 2018. Author of 130 peer-reviewed publications and 24 chapters in books, she is a member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Ozone of the World Meteorological Organization and of the Advisory Committee for the Vienna Convention Trust Fund. She has participated as a co-author or principal author in the various International Reports assessing the state of the ozone layer, the most recent of which was published in 2018. She is an officer of the International Ozone Commission since 2008 and has been elected President in 2016. She was elected Honorary Member of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics in 2015.
