Mark Delaere - Biography#
Mark Delaere studied musicology and philosophy at the University of Leuven, and music theory, harmony, counterpoint, clarinet, and chamber music at the Royal Conservatories of Music in Antwerp and Brussels. He received his PhD in musicology in 1988, upon which he became visiting researcher at TU Berlin from 1989 until 1991 (Humboldt Forschungsstipendium), following an invitation by Carl Dahlhaus. In 1992 he was appointed associate professor, in 1995 full professor at the University of Leuven’s musicology department, and he held the Breughel Chair at the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia) in 1998 and the Van Dyck Chair at UCLA in 2014. He is a member of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Sciences and Arts.
