Franco Brezzi - Curriculum Vitae#
Born in Vimercate (Italy) on April 29th, 1945, he graduated in Mathematics at the University of Pavia in 1967. Assistant Professor of Numerical Analysis at the University of Pavia from 1969 to 1975, he became Full Professor of Mathematical Analysis, first at the Politecnico di Torino (1975-77) and then at the University of Pavia until 2006. Professor of Numerical Analysis at the Istituto Universitario di Studi Superiori (IUSS) of Pavia from 2006-2015.
His scientific interests cover a wide range of subjects in the field of partial differential equations, both from theoretical and numerical point of view. He authored/coauthored about 130 papers in scientific journals, 6 books, and about 80 papers in books/proceedings and survey papers.
He worked and still works for several journals and book series. In particular, presently, he is Managing Editor of M3AS, Mathematical Models & Methods in Applied Sciences (World Sc.), Editor-in-Chief of Numerische Mathematik and of CALCOLO (both of Springer Verlag) and Member of the Editorial Board of several other journals and series.
He received several awards, among which the Gauss-Newton Medal by the International Association of Computational Mechanics in 2004, the SIAM Von Neumann Award in 2009, the Blaise Pascal Medal for Mathematics by the European Academy of Sciences in 2012. He was invited Plenary Lecturer at the International Congress of Mathematicians in 2014.
He is member of several prestigious Academies, SIAM Fellow, Fellow of the International Association of Computational Mechanics, and Vice-President of the European Mathematical Society.
