Thomas Becker - Biography#
Thomas Becker is one of the top scientists and international leader in mitochondria biology, with outstanding, pioneering contributions and world-wide reputation. He studied biology in Kiel (Germany) and performed his PhD about protein import into chloroplasts at the University of Munich. He received his PhD with distinction in cell biology. He continued as postdoctoral fellow at the University of Munich. He worked as postdoctoral fellow and group leader at the University of Freiburg. He studied insertion of alpha-helical membrane proteins, effects of lipids on protein biogenesis, coupling of protein import to metabolite transport and organelle contact sites and identified protein quality control mechanisms of protein entry into mitochondria (published as senior/corresponding author in NATURE, CELL, MOL CELL, NAT. COMMUN., EMBO REP., CELL REP., J. CELL BIOL). He is excellently integrated in the scientific community with collaborations with world-leading scientific groups . He has an h-factor 58, was invited to a large number of lectures and performs outstanding training of early career scientists. He received highly competitive funding and is director of the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular biology of the University of Bonn.
