Sierd Cloetingh elected as Foreign Member of the Academy of Lisbon#

Sierd Cloetingh, Former President of Academia Europaea and presently Chair of the International Advisory Group of our Academy, has been elected as Foreign Member of the Academy of Lisbon established in 1779. At the occasion of his election and the celebration of the 1974 Portuguese revolution, now 50 years ago, he gave a keynote lecture at the Academy of Lisbon on academic freedom and the role of academies in a European context.

Since its foundation, the ACL has maintained uninterrupted activities promoting, disseminating and sharing knowledge in the sciences and humanities. It preserves and enhances the rich heritage under its supervision, making its collections available in open access. Its mission includes providing independent scientific advice on matters crucial to the country's development.
