Jon Blundy has been a pioneer of the application of fundamental geochemical and crystal chemical principles to understanding the partitioning of elements between phases in the petrogenesis of rocks. He has also made major advances in the establishment of ascent rates for rising magma via diffusion profile analysis of volatile phases employing state-of-the-art microanalysis.
