Bayram Yilmaz is a Professor of Medical Physiology at Dokuz Eylül University in Izmir, Türkiye. He has a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Firat University (Türkiye) and PhD in Medical Physiology from University of Glasgow (Scotland). He worked as a Research Assistant Professor at the State University of New York at Albany (2001-2003), and Visiting Scientist at the King’s College London (summer 2013) and at the University of Oxford (spring 2000). Dr. Yilmaz was employed as Professor of Medical Physiology at Yeditepe University in Istanbul, Türkiye from February 2007 until August 2024 where he lectured to both medical and dentistry students. He also gave courses to post-graduate students on medical physiology and research methodology in Neuroscience and Neuroendocrinology. Professor Yilmaz served as the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Director of the Graduate School of Health Sciences at Yeditepe University between 2013-2024. His administrative responsibilities included managing the animal research centre, chairing the ethics committee on animal research and membership of the scientific board of the Yeditepe University Hospital. \\

Dr. Yilmaz was co-appointed and worked to establish Health Institutes of Türkiye (TÜSEB), a major funding agency in health sciences, as founding secretary general between January 2016 and June 2019. At the last year of his term at TÜSEB, he also worked as acting president. In December 2023, he was appointed as director of Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Centre in Izmir (Türkiye) which is centre of excellence in health biotechnology with over 300 researchers. In August 2024, he was promoted as President of Dokuz Eylül University in Izmir, one of the largest (over 66.000 students at 18 faculties and 7 institutes) and leading universities (top 10) in Türkiye. \\

Professor Bayram Yilmaz has been involved and served at various scientific organisations. He organised one of the largest FEPS meetings in Istanbul in 2011. He was elected in 2013 as Secretary General at Federation of European Physiological Societies (FEPS) and re-elected in 2018 and served until September 2022. As FEPS Secretary General, he organised several scientific meetings and promoted physiology both at country level and among students throughout Europe. He is the president of Turkish Neuroscience Society and vice-president of Turkish Society of Physiological Sciences. Dr. Yilmaz founded and chaired Turkish Neuroendocrinology Society between 2008 and 2018. He has organised and chaired several scientific meetings, workshops and schools in physiology, neuroscience and neuroendocrinology.\\

He has received several promotions and awards from Technical and Scientific Council of Türkiye (TUBITAK), Yeditepe University and various organisations.\\

He is an author of seven book chapters and 158 refereed articles (Scopus: h-index 34, over 3300 citations; Google Scholar: h-index 47, 6500 citations). His research interest include neuro-endocrine regulation of energy homeostasis and reproductive hormones in experimental models. He also works on presence of endocrine disrupting chemicals in human (breast milk) and environmental samples using in vitro and in vivo test models.
