Angela Ralli is Emeritus Professor of Linguistics at the University of Patras and member of the Linguistics Committee of the Academia Europaea. She has been member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Patras (2012-2017) and founder and director of the Laboratory of Modern Greek Dialects (2000-2020). She received her B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Montreal, speaks fluently four languages (Greek, English, French, Italian) and has a research competence in German, Spanish and Turkish.

Her main expertise areas are theoretical morphology, Greek morphology, dialectal variation, language contact, and she is interested in various aspects of word formation and the relation of morphological change and language contact. She also deals with issues relevant to mental lexicon and morphological parsing. Her recent interests focus on the morphology of Asia Minor dialects (Aivaliot, Pontic Cappadocian), Heptanesian, Grekanico (Greek of South Italy) and Cypriot which were affected by Turkish (Asia Minor Greek, Cypriot) and Romance (Heptanesian, Grekanico and Cypriot).

Angela Ralli has been awarded the Canadian Faculty Enrichment Award (1999), the Stanley J. Seeger Research Fellowship (Princeton University, 2012), the VLAC Research Fellowship of the Flemish Royal Academy (2008-2009 and 2014), four Inter-University Fellowships between Greece and Italy, The Netherlands, Canada and Russia, and the Distinguished Professor of the University of Diaspora by the University of Cyprus (2019, 2021).

She has directed/directs 24 European and Greek projects on theoretical morphology, computational morphology, language contact and the Greek dialects, two of which, THALIS and ARISTEIA have been ranked first and second in Greece, respectively. She has also participated in 20 international projects of American and European Universities and has undertaken 25 ERASMUS agreements with various European Universities.

She has published 5 monographs and about 200 papers in international journals, collective volumes, and peer reviewed conference proceedings. She edits the Journal Patras Working Papers in Linguistics and is the editor or the co-editor of 14 collective volumes.

18 Ph.D. theses have been completed under her supervision and 10 under her co-supervision. She has been the external examiner of another 10, and 10 of her former Ph.D. students have been appointed to academic positions.

Angela Ralli has been an invited speaker of many international conferences (37) and an invited scholar at several European, American and Asian Universities (44). She is member of the editorial board of international linguistic journals, member of the scientific committee of numerous international conferences, as well as founder and member of the permanent scientific and organising committees of the Mediterranean Morphology Meeting and the International Conference of Modern Greek Dialects and Linguistic Theory.
