Michael Röckner received his doctorate degree in 1984 and his habilitation in 1987 from Bielefeld University. After spending one year as postdoc at Cornell University, he was a lecturer/reader at Edinburgh University (1986-1990). \\

After that he became professor of Mathematics at the University of Bonn (1990-1994) and has been occupying a full-professorship at the Faculty of Mathematics at Bielefeld University from 1994 to date, interrupted by a one-year stay as professor at Purdue University in 2005/2006.\\
\\
He was awarded the "Heinz-Maier-Leibnitz Prize" (1989), the "Sir Edmund Whittaker Memorial Prize" (1989), and the "Max-Planck Research Prize" (1992). He is an ordinary member of the "Academy of Science and Literature, Mainz" and an honorary member of the Romanian Academy. He was a member of the DFG-Senate's Commission for CRCs from 2006 to 2011, is a member of the "Selection Committee for the A. von Humboldt Research Award" since 2012, and was a member/chair of panel "PE1 Mathematics" for the "Advanced Grants" of the ERC from 2008 to 2018.\\

Since 2014 he is "Special invited guest professor" at Jiangsu Normal University in Xuzhou, China. In 2017 he was awarded an Honorary Dr. of Science by the University of Swansea and a "Distinguished Visiting Professorship" at the Chinese Academy in Beijing.\\

From 2017 to 2018 he was the President of the German Mathematical Society and for 11 years the Dean of the Bielefeld Mathematics Faculty. From 2006 to 2014 he was the speaker of the Beijing-Bielefeld IRTG 1132 "Stochastics and Real World Models". Since 2017 he is the Speaker of CRC 1283 "Taming uncertainty and profiting from randomness and low regularity in analysis, stochastics and their applications" at Bielefeld University.\\

He has published close to 290 papers as well as 6 monographs and supervised 30 doctoral degree students.\\ \\
