Adrian Miroiu received a BA in philosophy in 1978 and a Ph. Degree in 1987, both from the University of Bucharest. In the period 1978 - 1990 he worked as a philosophy teacher and then as a philosophy editor. In 1991 he joined the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Bucharest as an associate professor and form 1994 as a full professor. In the period 1993 - 1993 he acted as a Dean of the Faculty. In the academic year 1994 - 1995 he was a visiting scholar at the Sage School of Philosophy, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. \\

In 2001 he became a professor of Political science at the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration, Bucharest. He served as Dean of the Faculty of Political Science (2001 - 2005) and President of the University (2008 - 2012).\\

Adrian Miroiu was also involved in politics. He was a secretary of state for higher education in the Ministry of Education (representing the Democratic Party) in the period 1999 - 2001. He has also acted in professional bodies at the national level: he was a member of the board (2006 – 2013) and vice-president (2009 - 2013) of the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS) and president of the National Council for Higher Education Funding (CNFIS) (2011 - 2015).\\

He was a Ph.D. supervisor for more than 25 years and coordinated a large number of theses.\\

His principal academic interest was logic and philosophy of science and language. He published a series of articles in main logic journals on modal logic. He wrote form this perspective a book on the ontological argument (which could be published only after the collapse of the socialist regime). His interest in logic moved to the more general topic of aggregation and rational choice theory (with a focus on collective choice issues). From this perspective he published papers on political philosophy, public choice and social choice.\\
