Losada received a PhD in Civil Engineering from the U.of Cantabria (UC) and a second PhD from the U. of Delaware (UD). From 1989-1992, he joined the Center for Applied Coastal Research (UD). At UC, since 1993 his research has embraced: coastal dynamics and protection; climate change and ocean energy. Since 1999 he is a Professor at UC and Director of Research of IHCantabria where he served as founding Director (2007-2011), after promoting its creation. With a 150+ staff, the Shanghai Ranking ranks the Institute, among the top in the world (6th in 2017) in Ocean Engineering and was awarded in 2018 as Emblematic Project of Cohesion Policy by the EU. Since its opening in 2011 Losada is also the Scientific Director of the Cantabria Coastal and Ocean Wave Basin, a unique large-scale infrastructure. In 2010-2019 he has been engaged in several IPCC reports, coordinating the chapter on coastal risks and adaptation in AR5. PI in > 25 projects funded by national and EU programs he has published >150 papers in top journals: Nature Climate Change, Nature Communications and Scientific Reports, etc. In 1992-2019, he ranks, #2 in the world in number of citations in the field Ocean Engineering (WoS). He is listed in Essential Science Indicators in the discipline Engineering. Losada has served as PI of > 80 technology transfer projects for multilateral, public and private entities in > 25 countries, having a great impact on coastal protection and climate change policies and in the development of ocean energy in Europe. He has made important contributions to the education of researchers including the supervision of 23 PhDs and building capacity of coastal and climate change professionals worldwide. His awards include the prestigious G. Moffatt and Frank E. Nichol from the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Rei Jaume I Award. He is a member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Engineering, the Coastal Engineering Research Council (ASCE) and Editor-in- Chief of Coastal Engineering.\\ \\
