#Organized and served, 3 times, as Director of the Summer Institute of Chinese Linguistics (1991, 1997, and 2005).\\
#International Association of Chinese Linguistics (IACL): Chaired a steering committee to create the IACL (in 1991), served as its Executive Secretary (1991-95), Treasurer (1995-99), Vice President (1999-2000), and President (2000-2001).  \\
#Founding Editor of the Journal of East Asian Linguistics, an SSCI and A&HCI-indexed journal published by Kluwer/Springer, from 1991, now in its 27th volume. \\
#Principal advisory services for the following institutions (among others):\\
##21 years (from 1997) on the Academic Advisory Committee for the Institute of Linguistics of Academia Sinica, including serving as its Chair.\\
##14 years on the Advisory Panel for the Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange, USA.\\
