!!Christian Herder - Biography
\\
Christian Herder is a group leader at the German Diabetes Center and professor (epidemiology) at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, Germany. He studied biology and epidemiology in Germany and the UK and received his PhD in biochemistry from Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. His research focuses on an important aspect of the pathophysiology of (pre)diabetes, i.e. the role of systemic subclinical inflammation, immune cells and biomarkers in the development and prediction of diabetes and its complications. This transdisciplinary research combining immunology, epidemiology as well as molecular and cell biology sharpened the concept that inflammation - as independent risk factor or induced by lifestyle and environmental factors - contributes to all stages of the development of type 2 diabetes from prediabetes to the onset of chronic macro- and microvascular complications. \\
\\
The results of his research are documented by a comprehensive publication track record. He has authored/co-authored 375 articles in journals such as Diabetes Care, Diabetologia, Diabetes, Lancet, Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, Nature and Nature Genetics, of which 112 with first or last authorship. The impact of these publications is reflected by over 28,000 citations and an h-index of 72 (based on Web of Science). \\
\\
His contribution to diabetes research has been recognised through various awards including the lecture in the Rising Star Symposium of the EASD and the Ferdinand Bertram Prize from the German Diabetes Association.\\
\\
Since 2018, he has served as General Secretary of the Central European Diabetes Association (CEDA). CEDA’s aim is to promote scientific interests and cooperation between all groups in Central Europe acting in the area of diabetes mellitus. Furthermore, he has contributed to the EASD annual meetings in 2014, 2021, 2022 and 2023 as member of the programm committee.\\ \\[{ALLOW view All}][{ALLOW edit cherder}][{ALLOW upload cherder}][{ALLOW comment All}]
