__Professional history__

M.Gilfanov was born in Kazan and educated in USSR where he started his research in high energy astrophysics. In 1996 he moved to Max-Planck-Institute for Astrophysics (Garching, Germany) where he presently holds a position of research group leader (equivalent to a position of an associated professor in German Universities). He also holds a position of a Principle scientist at Space Research Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences.  \\
