Prof. Crespo-Solana has worked as a research fellow, invited lecturer and associated professor at several universities and research centres, such as Universidad de Cádiz, (Junta de Andalucía, 1991-1993), Spain; Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium (1993); Universiteit Leiden (Institute Geschiedenis voor Europese Expansie), The Netherlands (1994, 1995, 1996-1997, 1998, 2000, 2002), Institute Maritieme Geschiedenis, Universiteit Gent, Belgium (2000), London School of Economics, London, United Kingdom (2001). She has been awarded grants and scholarships by various institutions and organized and participated as speaker in international conferences and workshops in Spain, The Netherlands, France, United Kingdom, United States, Belgium, Germany, Finland, Argentina, México, Colombia and Sweden. She has also taken part in programmes of doctorate courses at various universities such as Universidad Hispalense (Seville, Spain); Universidad Pablo de Olavide (Seville, Spain); Historisches Seminaar, University Hamburg (Germany); University of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, and Massachussets Institute for Technology, MIT, Harvard University (United States), Universidad Nacional del Mar del Plata (Argentina), El Colegio Mexiquense (México), Universidad del Norte, Barranquilla (Colombia), amongst others. \\

Since 2000, she has been Associated researcher, Professor Ramon y Cajal fellowship at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (The Spanish National Research council (CSIC)), and since 2008 Professor and Tenured Scientist at the same institution. \\

She has led several internationals and national research project as: "Dynamic Complexity of Cooperation-Based Self-Organizing Commercial Networks in the First Global Age", within the EUROCORES programme of the European Science Foundation (EUROCORES); GlobalNET, funded by the Spanish Ministery of Science and Innovation (National Endowments for the Humanities). She is the coordinator of the Marie Curie ITN project ForSEAdiscovery: "Forest Resources for Iberian Empires. Ecology and Globalization in the Age of Discovery, 16th-18th centuries" (ITN FP7-PEOPLE-2013-ITN; Multi-ITN. MARIE CURIE Actions. She is currently leading the research project: “Ship ExMachina revisitied” (National Endowments for Humanities, Spanish Ministery of Science (Ref.: EIN2019-103133). 2019-2021; and the research project “Naufragios Históricos” (Historical Shipwrecks) funded by the Spanish National Agency of Research (CSIC) (Ref.: PIE201910E065). She is also supervising the Marie Curie Individual Fellowship “ModernSHIP” (with Dr. Arnaud Cazenave de la Roche).\\
