V. Adam-Vizi graduated as an M.D. (1973), then received her Ph.D. (1981) and Doctor of Sciences degree (1989) at Semmelweis University. She became full professor, in 1999 and was the chairperson of the Department of Medical Biochemistry between 1991-2014.\\
\\
She served in two terms as Vice-Rector of Semmelweis University responsible for Scientific Affairs.\\
\\
Her field in science is neurobiochemistry focusing on the generation and targets of oxidative stress in nerve terminals. She was the first to publish i) that major metabolic enzymes, such as 2-oxoglutarate dehydrogenase are able to generate reactive oxygen species, which plays a key role in the neuronal damage related to ischemia and ii) the early metabolic targets and changes in response to oxidative stress in neurons. \\

She published 170 papers and review, which were independently cited in more than 5000 publications.\\
\\
She has served in Editorial Boards to a number of Journals and organized international meetings and symposiums at large international congresses.\\
\\
She is a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and currently the President of the Section of Medical Sciences of the Academy. \\
\\
